Each course covers a number of core themes, with Applied Human Factors rolling throughout the entire course.

Safety II, Systems Thinking, Psychological Safety, Civility, Just Culture, and Models of Safety, are some of the recurring themes that are explored in more depth as the course progresses through to the Recurrent Training Day.

The focus of our courses is to encourage delegates to think about their work 'system' and help them design it to best fit their way of working to improve both theirs, and their patients, safety and well-being

Delegates must attend the Day 1 core training day first before attending Day 2 training.

We usually recommend 3-6 months between the two days to allow consolidation of learning and to allow delegates time to apply some of their learning (see pledges).

Once the two Core Training days have been completed, delegates can attend the Recurrent training every 1-2 years to top-up their knowledge and keep up-to-date with the latest HF developments.

SCReaM courses can be attended either virtually or face-to-face in the classroom. They run from 8.30am until 5pm with plenty of breaks throughout the day.

Courses are facilitative with group activities and lots of discussion.

Virtual Courses

We run our virtual courses using Zoom. To join us via Zoom, you will need:

  • A computer/laptop/tablet/smartphone. It is possible to undertake the course on a smartphone, but for comfort, we recommend a computer/laptop/tablet.

  • Microphone and speakers/earphones (usually integrated as part of your computer/tablet/ smartphone) switched on so you can hear/speak to us.

  • Preferably camera so we can see you.

  • Good Wi-Fi access.

If you’re not familiar with Zoom we recommend watching this basic Zoom video to help before the course.

Classroom Courses

Our classroom courses are held at the Royal Surrey in Guildford. Directions and maps will be provided before the course and refreshments, including lunch, are provided throughout the day.

We currently run two tailored training programmes:
